Target Zero Institute Consultant's Report - 2018
Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare (AAM&W) was eligible for an on-site Fellowship with the Target Zero Institute TZI. This opportunity was possible because in 2014 the City of Amarillo contracted for their shelter assessment services. AM&W Director (at the time of this report) Richard Havens presented to City Council on October 31, 2017, seeking guidance for what the next steps should be. One of those steps was to seek the guidance of an independent third party. City Council agreed that TZI should be brought back for plan to be created.
In January of 2018, a prelude to the onsite visit took place in a 90-minute remote consultation. In March of 2018, Dr. Mike Greenberg, DVM arrived in Amarillo and conducted a thorough analysis of Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare as well as the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society.
A Best Practices presentation was offered to brick and mortar facilities in the Panhandle. Twelve participants from eight agencies came to the presentation.
We appreciate the Fellowship opportunity that has been extended to us as we strive to make Amarillo the most humane community in the Panhandle of Texas.
