The Importance of Spaying and Neutering Your Pet

Spaying and neutering your pet is a crucial aspect of maintaining their health and the community's well-being. This is the only completely effective method of preventing unwanted litters and reducing overpopulation. Additionally, it can help decrease potential behavioral problems. We recognize that the expense may be a consideration when deciding against spaying or neutering.

Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare Pet Voucher Program

Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare is launching its Spay/Neuter Voucher Program following a successful pilot held in summer 2025. With funding allocated by Amarillo City Council, this program helps provide affordable spay and neuter services to residents living in designated Recognized Neighborhood Associations, supporting pet health and community well-being.

Spaying and neutering pets helps reduce pet overpopulation, improves animal health, and creates safer, more sustainable neighborhoods. This program allows Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare to meet community needs while supporting responsible pet ownership.

The voucher program will be offered regularly in Recognized Neighborhood Associations throughout Amarillo while funding is available. Participants are only eligible if they can provide proof of residency within the selected Neighborhoods where the clinic is taking place.

How the Voucher Program Works
  1. Attend a scheduled voucher event in your area with your pet.
  2. Provide proof of residency to confirm eligibility.
  3. Your pet will receive vaccinations and a microchip at the event.
  4. A spay/neuter voucher will be issued and linked to your pet’s microchip number.
  5. We recommend scheduling your appointment with a participating veterinary clinic as soon as possible to ensure your voucher is used while it is still valid, as vouchers expire 60 days from the date of issuance. Please bring the voucher to your appointment so the clinic can verify the animal is associated with it.
